Has anyone any hints or suggestions for writing an artists statement [my first one]?

Submitting to a very well known university for a residency/grant.

any tricks would be amazing and thankfully accepted!

cheers,

    oh man...

hardest thing for me to write.

try to cull out what you think they want...
call or ask the grant administrator for hints...

outline what you want to say.
the points you want to make.

keep in mind that some of the people on the granting panel may *only* read this and not your CV or resume'
don't try to impress with flowery poetic language, be clear, concise and factual.

read a ton of other peoples artist's statements...

write it like Elvis would write it.
write it like Kurt vonnegut, or gore vidal, or truman copote would write it.
write it like Yogi bear would write it.
put some ease and playfulness around it.
    then edit it down.

    hopefully that helps
